Muslims should therefore ask themselves:

• Does this behavior agree with the Qur’an and Sunnah?
• Does it strengthen or weaken my faith?
• Am I following Islamic principles or simply following a trend?
• Does my behavior reflect honesty, modesty, mercy, and justice?
• Would I be comfortable with this action being known to Allah?

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ: The Best Example

The greatest practical example of Islamic character is the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. His life combined worship with excellent conduct.

He was truthful, trustworthy, patient, merciful, forgiving, courageous, humble, and just. He treated family members, companions, neighbors, children, the elderly, the poor, and others with dignity.

Following the Prophet ﷺ therefore means more than learning information about him. It means attempting to follow his example in our speech, behavior, patience, relationships, and dealings.

1. Strengthen your relationship with Allah through sincere worship and remembrance.

3. Learn from the life of the Prophet ﷺ and apply his example.
4. Control anger and avoid harmful speech.
5. Be truthful and trustworthy in every responsibility.
6. Respect parents, relatives, neighbors, and other people.
7. Avoid arrogance and seek forgiveness when you make mistakes.
8. Choose good companions who encourage righteousness.
9. Examine yourself regularly and correct your weaknesses.
10. Ask Allah to improve your character and keep you firm upon Islam.
