What You Should Do on the First 10 Days of                                Zulhijjah

Introduction

The first ten days of Zulhijjah are among the most blessed days in Islam. These sacred days hold immense spiritual value and are loved by Allah سبحانه وتعالى. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said that no good deeds performed on other days are more beloved to Allah than those done during these ten days.

For Muslims around the world, these days are a precious opportunity to strengthen faith, seek forgiveness, increase worship, and prepare spiritually for Eid al-Adha. Whether you are going for Hajj or staying at home, the first ten days of Zulhijjah are a chance to earn countless rewards and draw closer to Allah.

Here are some important acts of worship every Muslim should focus on during these blessed days.

1. Increase in Prayer and Worship

One of the best things you can do during the first ten days of Zulhijjah is to improve your connection with Allah through Salah. Pray all five daily prayers on time and try to offer additional voluntary prayers (Nafl).

Spend extra time making dua, asking Allah for forgiveness, guidance, mercy, and blessings for yourself and your family.

2. Observe Fasting

Fasting during the first nine days of Zulhijjah is highly rewarding, especially on the Day of Arafah (9th Zulhijjah).

The Prophet ﷺ said that fasting on the Day of Arafah removes the sins of the previous year and the coming year.

Even if you cannot fast all nine days, try your best to fast on the Day of Arafah to gain immense spiritual benefits.

3. Recite More Quran

The Quran is a source of peace, guidance, and blessings. During these holy days, increase your Quran recitation and reflect on its meanings.

Set a daily goal for reading the Quran, even if it is only a few pages each day. Consistency is more important than quantity.

4. Engage in Dhikr and Takbeer

Remember Allah frequently during the days of Zulhijjah. Recite:

  • SubhanAllah
  • Alhamdulillah
  • Allahu Akbar
  • La ilaha illallah

The Takbeer of Zulhijjah should be recited often in homes, mosques, and daily life to glorify Allah.

5. Give Charity

Helping those in need is one of the most beloved deeds in Islam. Give Sadaqah generously during these blessed days.

You can help the poor, feed the hungry, support Islamic causes, or assist someone in need. Every act of kindness is rewarded manyfold during Zulhijjah.

6. Make Sincere Tawbah (Repentance)

These ten days are an ideal time to turn back to Allah with sincerity. Ask forgiveness for past sins and make a firm intention to improve yourself.

Allah loves those who repent sincerely, and His mercy is endless.

7. Prepare for Qurbani (Sacrifice)

Muslims who are financially able should prepare for Qurbani in remembrance of the sacrifice of Prophet Ibrahim عليه السلام.

Qurbani teaches obedience, devotion, and submission to Allah’s command. It is also a way to share blessings with family, friends, and the needy.

8. Avoid Sins and Bad Habits

Just as good deeds are multiplied during these days, sins can also carry greater consequences. Avoid gossip, anger, dishonesty, and harmful behavior.

Use these days to build better habits and purify your heart.

9. Strengthen Family and Community Ties

Visit relatives, help neighbors, and spread kindness within your community. Islam encourages unity, compassion, and strong relationships.

Even a small act of kindness can become a source of great reward during Zulhijjah.

10. Make Plenty of Dua

Never underestimate the power of dua. Ask Allah for success in this life and the Hereafter.

Pray for:

  • Forgiveness
  • Good health
  • Rizq (sustenance)
  • Protection
  • Guidance
  • Peace for the Ummah

The blessed days of Zulhijjah are a powerful time for supplications to be accepted.

Conclusion

The first ten days of Zulhijjah are a gift from Allah and a golden opportunity for every Muslim to increase in worship and good deeds. These days remind us to strengthen our faith, purify our hearts, and seek closeness to Allah through prayer, fasting, charity, and remembrance.

Do not let these blessed days pass without making the most of them. Even small, sincere actions can bring enormous rewards. May Allah accept our عبادات, forgive our sins, and grant us the blessings of Zulhijjah. Ameen.
