Which is also known as KISWA or GHILAF E KABA and it takes 137 skilled workers around 8 months to prepare this. Every year, It’s beautifully embroidered with Quranic verses like Surah Al-Ikhlas, Ayat al-Kursi, and the Shahada in gold and silver threads. The Kiswa is 14 meters tall and covers an area of 657 square meters. It is replaced during the Hajj season on the 9th of Dhul Hijjah, the last month of the Islamic year. This KISWA costs around 20 Million Saudi Riyals. You’ll also find the name of the Saudi king who gifted it, written in elegant calligraphy
Cleansing of the Kaaba
The Kaaba is washed twice yearly: in Shaban and Dhul Hijjah. The cleaning process uses Zamzam water, oud oil, and rose water to cleanse and perfume the interior walls.
Annual Celebration and Presentation of the New Kiswa
After completing all production stages, an annual celebration is held in mid-Dhul Qa’dah at the Kiswa Factory. The finished Kiswa is ceremoniously delivered to the Kaaba’s Caretaker during this event. The General President of the Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet’s ﷺ Mosque also presents a specially produced bag for the key to the Kaaba door.
Distribution of the Old Kiswah
After the old Kiswa is taken off, it's cut into small pieces and given as gifts to important people, religious institutions, and Saudi embassies abroad.
